# Joe Cawley

> Joe Cawley is an award-winning British author, journalist, ghostwriter and screenwriter who lives in Tenerife. His memoir More Ketchup than Salsa was voted Best Travel Narrative by the British Guild of Travel Writers and became a Kindle bestseller. He ghostwrites memoirs and extraordinary true stories, with an eye to their film and television potential.

## Ghostwriting

- [Memoir and true story ghostwriting](https://www.joecawley.co.uk/ghostwriting/): Joe turns the raw material of a life (conversations, memories, diaries, photographs, documents, recordings and existing writing) into a book written in the subject's own voice.
- Stories he is interested in: remarkable or unconventional lives, extraordinary family histories, survival and reinvention, business and entrepreneurial stories, crime, conflict and high-stakes experiences, travel and lives lived far from the ordinary, untold stories supported by archives, diaries or letters, and true stories with possible screen potential. The person does not need to be famous.
- Screen potential: Joe's background includes screenwriting and he currently has three television and film projects in development, so he looks at a true story both as a book and as potential drama.
- Experience: he has ghostwritten books for two global industry leaders; those projects are confidential under non-disclosure agreements.
- How it works: (1) tell him the story in a few paragraphs, (2) talk through the story, scope and goals, (3) build the book through interviews, source material, structure, writing and revisions.
- Budgets: projects start from £5,000 to £10,000, with bands of £10,000 to £30,000 and £30,000+.
