Who put the lights out?
By Joe | July 30, 2007
Just when you thought the climate conditions couldn’t get any more extreme in Tenerife, it starts raining black snow!! Well, ash, actually. The 110 degree plus temperatures have triggered a major forest fire in Los Realejos. At around 3.30pm, the skies above the west coast turned eerily yellow, to be followed by a black cloud rolling down the mountain. Black ash is currently reported as falling on the beaches afar afield as Alcala and El Medano, accompanied by the sweet smell of burning pine.

Actually Joe, teh report I’ve read (in Spanish) seems to suggest that the Los Realejos fire may have been deliberately provoked. Another report from Power FM suggests that there is another fire in Chio, which is what could be providing your black snow.
They also say that El Tanque is affected. I went out earlier and saw a huge plume of what looked like cloud, but I think was, in reality smoke, over the mountains in this area of the north west that were coming from that direction. Bad day.

Bad day, indeed. Not heard any confirmations of arson yet, but time will tell. Nice site by the way.
