I’ve always liked these guys

Few reviews starting to roll in for my book, More Ketchup than Salsa. Thankfully all are very kind and won’t require a response from my lawyer or a visit from my mate with the big stick.
Henry Sutton of The Daily Mirror called it ‘Highly amusing’.Â
Peter Kerr, author of Snowball Oranges, says it’s ’Spiked with humour and sharp observation’.Â
A Place in the Sun magazine said, ‘This comical book lifts the lid on life in a busy Tenerife resort’.
But the winning review so far is…
Ian Clover, editor of Property Mart Overseas
More Ketchup Than Salsa is a true account of Joe and Joy, whose bleak life in gloomy England spurred them to take a calculated leap of faith. From slumming with the fishes on a cold and wet Bolton market to joking with the locals as British bar owners in Tenerife, Joe and Joy soon discover that warmer weather does not necessarily lead to a warmer life.
Â
Joe Cawley’s affecting, bouncy prose sparkles with humour and wry insight. He captures both national psyche and stereotypes effortlessly, making the reader cringe and laugh with equal measure. Ex-pats, or anybody who has ever been a Brit abroad, will recognise at least one character in the book, and may even see scraps of themselves too.
Â
Emigrating to foreign shores is certainly an exciting prospect but, while not knowing what to expect may appeal, reality has a way of biting when you least need it to. More Ketchup Than Salsa tells it like it is, from the highs and the lows to the completely unexpected’s.
Â
A must-read for anybody seriously considering ditching the UK for a life in sunnier climes, More Ketchup Than Salsa reads like a familiar friends’ tale of travesty and triumph, interspersed with a sprinkling of wonderful anecdotes and insightful breakdowns of the British character.
