Siam Park in Tenerife

By Joe | July 17, 2008

Siam ParkJust got back from a visit to Siam Park, which is currently vying with Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia for the award of ‘most overdue completion date’. However, despite the lack of punctuality, I have to say the Park is something else.

In my capacity as a Tenerife travel writer, I got to try out some of the rides and can personally vouch that they’re mind-blowing.

Now I’m not a screamer, but plummeting 28 metres down a near-vertical chute without expelling at least a couple of expletives is nigh on impossible. Add a pool-ful of crocodiles at the bottom (coming soon) and I’d imagine the air above the Tower of Power will be permanently blue.

Siam Park TenerifeThe Jungle Snake is the most fun you can have with your arse wedged into an inflatable donut as you career haphazardly down a watery chute. Tip for the serious scream-seekers, choose one of the dark green chutes over the light green - it’s the difference between parp-parping along a country lane and skateboarding the wrong way up the TF-1.

The Volcano is like being flushed down the loo with three of your mates. Being trapped inside the laser-filled dome on a quadruple polo mint, trying to find the u-bend for the final flush down and out is like nothing you’ll ever experienced. Unless of course, you have been flushed down the toilet with three of your mates at some point in your life.

I didn’t get to try everything as a). some of the rides were still being finished; b) there was a photo shoot going on that didn’t require a pasty, overweight journalist to blight the image; and c) I ran out of time.

But I can equivocally state right here and now that you will find the Siam Park as incredible as all the hype that is sure to start hitting the streets once the opening date has been finalised - sometime in September, apparently. But don’t hold your breath.
