Where can I buy More Ketchup than Salsa in Tenerife

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

I can’t believe how difficult it is to arrange distribution of my book, More Ketchup than Salsa in Tenerife! Despite my own, and my publishers efforts, 15 months down the line and we’re still without a distributor.
So, stuff ‘em.
I’ve been given clearance by Summersdale (my publisher) to supply outlets myself.
To date, More Ketchup than Salsa […]

Elton John to play in Tenerife

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Hot off the press from the excellent Secret Tenerife website - Elton John is to perform in Tenerife’s capital, Santa Cruz.
According to the city’s mayor, Angel Llanos, a contract is being signed today which will bring this legendary wig-wearer and his entourage to Tenerife sometime mid-November.
The mayor also stated that Elton was just one of three […]

Live on air

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

For those who missed my monumental… ahem, no sniggering… interview on Oasis FM in Tenerife, here are the links for the chat with Roscoe, in its entirety. I think it went well, despite my tonsillitis and broad Mancunian accent that only seems to surface in public speaking events such as this. No idea why that happens, […]

Fining the sunbed savers

Friday, August 10th, 2007

There’s very little that’s more annoying than strolling down for a chilled day around a swimming pool and finding that each and every one of the sunbeds has been ‘towel reserved’.
According to a piece in the Guardian, those masters of ice-cream production, the Italians, have taken that crime one stage further and started fining people […]

English films in the south

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Popcorn at the ready… The latest cinematic offerings are going to be available in English in the south. The CC Gran Sur has finally opened and English language films will start to be shown in September. Wonder what will be first?

Who put the lights out?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Just when you thought the climate conditions couldn’t get any more extreme in Tenerife, it starts raining black snow!! Well, ash, actually. The 110 degree plus temperatures have triggered a major forest fire in Los Realejos. At around 3.30pm, the skies above the west coast turned eerily yellow, to be followed by a black cloud […]

The old chicken and egg debate for Tenerife

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Been having the old chicken and egg debate on the excellent Tenerife Forum website, as to whether the level of service in the local hospitality industry is crap because of the ’servers’ or the visitors.
Does Tenerife have the worst level of service on the planet, or do we do ok?

Tramps - good for Tenerife

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Called in briefly at Tramps yesterday afternoon (Saturday). What a good do! Radio One were broadcasting live, featuring some of their top name DJs (apparently). I’m afraid I’ve been out of the scene since Pampers have replaced partying, but even for an old duffer like myself, the atmosphere…ahem, vibe… was fantastic.
This kind of event can’t […]

Ryanair to fly to south Tenerife

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Certainly a good thing to see that Ryanair are switching operations from the north airport to the south this winter.
Although the airline only currently operates to Tenerife from Shannon and Dublin, it should still act as a welcome adrenaline shot for the tourist and property industries.
Commenting on the move from Tenerife North to Tenerife South, Ryanair’s Director […]

What Tenerife could learn from the Redcoats

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Having just returned from a press trip to Butlins in Skegness I have the urge to rant about the hospitality attitude in Tenerife.
I have to admit, that my expectations were fairly modest. I was a Butlins virgin, and as such, I had only the misconception of all-day Bingo, sychophantic Redcoats and noon-till-night knobbly-knee contests as […]
