About Joe
Ok, about me… where to start?Â
I was born in Bolton, Lancashire… but you don’t need to know all that stuff.
I’m an award-winning travel writer, copywriter and author, and a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers.
I’ve lived high in the hills of Tenerife for the past 16 years with my partner Joy and more recently my two hyperactive children, Molly Blue (5) and Sam B (3).Â
I’m medically compelled to travel to alleviate sporadic bouts of island fever that leave me with a nasty rash and an uncontrollable urge to bellow obscenities at the top of my voice.
Top trips so far, include, dog-sledding in the Arctic Circle, wolf and bear tracking in Transylvania, paddling into the Nicaraguan jungle with a Sandinista, and trekking the Inca trail in Peru.
I also enjoyed walking from the parador to Vilaflor in Tenerife with fellow author David Brawn, but that was only because the soles of my boots came off half way round, which was extremely funny - as anybody who’s walked for half a day barefoot and bloodied on hot rocks and pointy lava can testify.
My work has been featured in The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, The Times, Guardian, Observer, Independent, Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard, New York Post, Conde Nast Traveler and many others.
I also partake in copywriting for several clients, including The Mirror and Mouse-Move.com
My first book was published June 12th by Summersdale Publishing. More Ketchup than Salsa is a humorous account of swapping a career in fish entrails on Bolton market for a life as a bar owner in Tenerife. I think you should buy it, but then I am a little biased.
